The story

The watch pays homage to Portugal’s iconic Estoril circuit, the most prestigious of the Iberian Historic Endurance series. The dial takes inspiration from the vibrant colors of the Lotus 97T, the car Ayrton Senna famously drove to his first Portuguese Grand Prix victory at Estoril in 1985.

Cuervo y Sobrinos is the official timekeeper of Iberian Historic Endurance, a series of races staged on some of Europe’s iconic race tracks. Underpinning Iberian Historic Endurance is the notion of gentlemen drivers who share a passion for competition but can also be seen sharing a post-race joke.

The composition of the dial is enriched with a myriad of subtle, well-chosen details. While the silver-coloured hour and minute hands and the small seconds counter hand at 9 o’clock are all leaf-shaped, the hands fitted to the 30-minutes counter and the 12 hours counter at 6 o’clock are presented in black with a prominent triangular tip. The chronograph hand matches the color of the counters. The tachymeter scale is shown against a black background, augmenting legibility. The word, ‘Taquimetro’, meaning tachymeter in both Portuguese and Spanish, pays tribute to the origins of the historic race.

The watch is presented on a black driving-style perforated calf strap with brown-gold stitching. The perforations are intended to evoke thoughts of the traditional racing gloves worn in the past years.

Measuring 42mm in diameter, the stainless steel case fits modern tastes. On the back of the watch, the sapphire crystal allows a sight of the CYS 8100 automatic calibre, based on the Valjoux 7753. Furthermore, the crystal is decorated with reproduction of the 4.182 km Estoril track.
