Cuervo y Sobrinos Showcases the Buceador Caribe Pipin in Europe with the Champion Freediver Pipin Ferreras

Cuervo y Sobrinos recently concluded a series of events in Europe, celebrating the launch of the Caribe Pipin watch. Held in collaboration with few official retailers, these exclusive events took place in Italy and Spain, offering a unique platform for watch enthusiasts and collectors to experience this exceptional timepiece.

The events were highlighted by the presence of the legendary champion freediver Francisco ‘Pipin’ Ferreras, whose remarkable career and deep connection with the sea inspired the Caribe Pipin watch.

Attendees had the opportunity to meet the champion and hear some incredible stories from his career.

In 2021, Cuervo y Sobrinos initiated a partnership with the world record holder. Born in Matanzas, Cuba, Pipin acquired a passion for spearfishing at a young age, diving ever deeper and submerging for longer with each passing year. Sometimes described as a ‘human fish’, Pipin is probably best known for ‘No-Limits’ freediving, the discipline where he first came to prominence. He established the first world record for ‘No-Limits’ freediving back in November 1989, descending to a depth of 112 meters.

An esoteric sport, it’s worth pausing for a moment and imagining life in this subaquatic world, an underwater universe that Pipin knows well.

After 35 years, on August 11, 2024, Pipin plans to challenge himself and equal his own record by diving to 112 meters in the Cuban waters off the coast of Trinidad, at the age of 62 years old!

As a tribute to Pipin’s many achievements, Cuervo y Sobrinos is pleased to unveil a new 171 pieces limited edition model in his honor, the Buceador Caribe Pipin (171 is the deepest dive in meters achieved by the Cuban legend).

The tour of the champion started in Italy and the first event was held in Rome at Gioielleria Cristilli and the night set the tone for an unforgettable tour.

The second event, hosted by Basile Goldiamonds, continued the journey in Formia, southern Italy, drawing enthusiasts to explore the craftsmanship and innovation of Cuervo y Sobrinos timepieces and in the Buceador Caribe Pipin.

Adding to the evening's allure, Eleonora Vallone - Creator and Artistic Director of AquaFilmFestival - joined us to present the Festival, which is a celebration of water-themed cinema.

The tour continued in Spain, in the stunning location of Puerto Banus (Marbella), the event with Gomez y Molina Joyeros brought the spirit of the Caribbean to life, showcasing all the novelties by Cuervo y Sobrinos.

The final event in Valencia, in collaboration with Argimiro Joyero, concluded the tour with a celebration of Cuervo y Sobrinos' rich heritage.

A huge thank to everyone who joined us and made this tour an unforgettable celebration of excellence, adventure, and luxury.

About the Buceador Caribe Pipin watch:

This new diver watch is executed in an eye-catching combination of blue, red and white colors inspired by the Cuban flag. Optimally designed for underwater use, this model invites wearers to immerse themselves in a world of extreme.

Housed in a highly complex, 43mm steel case, featuring a container-type construction, this divers’ watch is water resistant to 200m. An ingenious pusher system, positioned at 4 o’clock, unlocks the crown at 2 o’clock. The red crown is used to adjust the internal rotating bezel, allowing the wearer to monitor their dive time. The crown for the time and date setting is located at 9 o' clock. The Buceador Caribe Pipin is presented on a white high-gloss rubber strap and is also supplied with a blue leather strap.

The Buceador Caribe Pipin is limited to 171 pieces, a reference to the last World Record Pipin set in the No-Limits discipline of 171 metres (560 feet) back in November 2003. This limited-edition timepiece celebrates a remarkable individual and a much-loved son of Cuba.

We invite you to discover the Caribe Pipin watch and immerse yourself in the craftmanship and rich heritage of Cuervo y Sobrinos, as we prefer to say, ‘Born in Havana. Crafted in Switzerland.’
